Lily Flower Care

Lilies are timeless flowers, admired for their elegance, fragrance, and bold blooms. But like all cut flowers, they require care to stay fresh. At Petals & Leaves, we design luxury floral arrangements that include lilies, and we’re sharing the best lily flower care tips so you can enjoy their beauty for longer.

1. Prepare Lilies Properly

When you bring home fresh lilies, trim the stems at a 45° angle and place them in a clean vase with fresh, lukewarm water. This ensures maximum hydration.

2. Change Water Regularly

To keep lilies fresh, replace the vase water every 1–2 days. Clean water helps prevent bacteria, which can cause lilies to wilt prematurely.

3. Remove Excess Leaves

Any leaves submerged in water should be removed. This prevents rotting, keeping your lilies fresher for longer.

4. Handle Pollen Carefully

Lilies have pollen that can stain clothes and furniture. To avoid this, gently remove the anthers (pollen-covered parts) with a tissue. This not only prevents stains but also helps the flower last longer.

5. Choose the Right Spot

Keep your lilies in a cool room, away from direct sunlight, heaters, and ripening fruit. A shaded spot extends the life of your bouquet.

6. Support Closed Buds

One of the joys of lilies is watching them open. To encourage blooming, place them in moderate light. Enjoy the fragrance as each bud opens gradually.

7. Combine with Other Flowers Carefully

Lilies mix beautifully in luxury flower arrangements, but ensure their vase mates have similar care needs. Roses, for example, thrive alongside lilies when both are kept in fresh, clean water.
